Dear La Ballona Families,

 

It is my pleasure to welcome all new and returning families to La Ballona Elementary School for the 2009-2010 School Year! I hope that your summer was filled with many fun and enjoyable moments for your family. This year we have an exciting new program added to our school. The CCUSD Dual Language Program in Spanish is being offered at La Ballona with the addition of two kindergarten classes being taught in the target language of Spanish. We are thrilled to be able to provide more CCUSD parents the choice of a Dual Language Program for their children here at our school. We are the proud recipient of the 2009 Title I Academic Achievement Award from the California Department of Education and pleased to add the Dual Language Program in Spanish to La Ballona’s excellent repertoire.

 

La Ballona has an active PTA and they are offering many exciting events for the new school year. Additionally, some of our parents have formed the La Ballona Booster Club to assist us with fund raising. We hope that all of you will join the La Ballona PTA and Booster Club as well as participate in the many exciting activities they have planned. Their meetings will be on the same night; Booster Club at 6:00 pm followed by PTA at 7:00 pm. More detailed information relative to specific dates will be made available.

 

Our teachers and I are very excited about sharing another new school year with you and your children. Our goal is to partner with you in providing a dynamic and effective educational program designed to empower our students to master the California state academic standards. Many enrichment opportunities such as the Math+Music Program, Actors’ Gang, Los Angeles Music Center Artists in Residence Program, Accelerated Reader, Partners in Print parent education, 5th Grade Ballroom Dancing lessons and performance, Peace Makers Program, Latino Family Literacy Program, Math Olympiad, the annual International Dinner and Dance Festival, the STAR program and the La Ballona Family Center are offered.

 

Please continue to strengthen the home school connection by attending school events and communicating regularly with your child’s teacher. I look forward to another fulfilling year and welcome the opportunity to work together to provide excellent educational experiences for your child in the 2009-2010 school year!
