La Ballona Families
I would like to thank our teaching and support staff for their hard work and commitment to the students and families of La Ballona. Our school continues to grow, and along the way there will be growing pains. La Ballona is a family and as such I am always proud to see the interaction and community building that our PTA performs for the benefit of our students. We grow, we learn and we become better along the way. I realize with reports of violence in schools that our community is as concerned for the physical and emotional safety of our students and staff. As principal these are always on my mind, and our district is communicating with our CCUSD community to ensure our families that safety is as important as educating our students. Below are some points around safety that I would like our families to support our school. As a reminder our schools will be closed from Monday the 25th through Friday the 29th in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday.
Please drive carefully and ONLY drop off students in the designated “Cone Zone.” People whose vehicles are endangering the safety of others can be reported to the CCPD. I also want to remind our families that the back gate is locked after the start of school, and parents can only enter from the front of school located on Washington Blvd. Please do not use the OCD (Child Care) gate located on the East side of campus to enter or exit the school, this gate is only for families in the OCD program and not our Tk-5 families. Our back gate is also only open from 3:15-3:25PM for dismissal, and closes at 8:25am in the morning. At the end of the day students not picked up (regardless of grade) are walked to the office and can only picked up by someone with an ID and listed on the emergency card. I also want to remind our families that the student restrooms are for student use only; adults are NOT permitted to use or accompany a minor, if a student needs assistance please walk to the nurse’ office and use the restroom in that office. These rules are in place to ensure the safety of our students; if there are questions in regards to this please feel free to make an appointment to discuss this issue with me and not with the office staff who are following school/district guidelines. All visitors must check in at the main office before coming onto campus, or beginning any volunteer work. It is important that we account for all adults who are on our campus in case of an emergency. Our teachers, staff and students participate in monthly drills, which do include lock down drills so that everyone is aware of how and what to do in an actual emergency.
School Site Council
Due to a recent vacancy we have a parent representative position open. We will send out parent nomination forms upon our return from the Thanksgiving break. Please see a current parent member, Anthony Russell, Joanne Nazarian, Felicity Vabulas or Brenna Moore.
